Sustainability and going green is everywhere these days. However, as people who live in Canada, it is not something we always think about in terms of heating our homes. After all, we need heat for our survival, and options are few. Some live in places where natural gas is an option, and others must rely on propane or electricity for their home heating. It’s not like Canadians can go solar anytime soon…

What you might not be aware of is that there are several innovations in furnaces and home heating that are much more energy-efficient. A more energy-efficient system doesn’t need to work as hard, which reduces your energy costs significantly. Many do not even use fossil fuels, further reducing your carbon footprint.

Whether going green is important to you or not, surely saving money is! The federal government has launched two new programs this year designed to reward folks for installing energy-efficient HVAC systems in their home, along with other home improvements.

Canada Greener Homes Grant

The Government of Canada is offering up to $5000 in rebates when you purchase energy-efficient upgrades. You’ll need to go through a home evaluation pre-and post upgrades to assess improvements, but the cost for that is also rebated. Atel Air has new home heating equipment like cold climate heat pumps that are eligible for these government rebates. Other things you might consider that are covered by the grant are new windows, home sealing, programmable thermostats or exterior doors.

Canada Greener Homes Loan

The federal government is also offering up to $40,000 in interest-free financing for major energy-efficient retrofits. These loans are ideal for more expensive projects like Geothermal heating and cooling or more extensive upgrades.

About Cold Climate Heat Pumps – Taking energy-efficient and cost-effective heat pumps to a whole new level, cold climate heat pumps excel in areas like Ottawa & Kemptville as an alternative to propane heating. An economical heating solution for temperatures as low as -25°C, a cold-climate heat pump can serve as your primary heating source for all but a few extremely cold nights each year. A cost-saving alternative to fossil fuels and a clean energy source, cold climate heat pumps offer an excellent opportunity to lessen your dependence on fossil fuels and unpredictable heating costs.

About Geothermal Heating & Cooling – One of the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies available, Geothermal is also one of the cheapest ways to heat and cool your home. ATEL Air has been installing geothermal systems in Eastern Ontario since 1984 and is a proud member of the Ontario Geothermal Association.
